The offer is significantly lower than the Toffees’ estimated valuation of the defender at £80 million. Arsenal has also inquired about the availability of midfielder Amadou Onana.

United have already agreed to personal terms with Branthwaite. However, Everton have told BBC Sport that they do not want to sell the 21-year-old, who many believe was unlucky not to be selected for England’s European Championship squad. The Merseyside club believes Branthwaite will soon become an England regular, ranking him alongside Harry Maguire and Josko Gvardiol. Maguire cost United £80 million when he signed from Leicester in 2019. Gvardiol paid Manchester City £77 million when he left RB Leipzig last summer.

Jarrad Branthwaite has piqued the interest of Everton fans with a string of impressive performances as a left-sided central defender. Helping the Merseyside club avoid relegation last season despite two point deductions for breaking financial loss-limiting rules. In May, Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell stated that players “will be sold” this summer and asked fans for “patience and understanding” as the club worked to improve its financial situation.

However, BBC Sport understands that the Toffees would need a bid of more than £50 million to consider selling 22-year-old Belgian midfielder Onana, who joined the club from French side Lille for £33 million in 2022. Onana’s participation in the Belgian national team’s Euro 2024 campaign may complicate a move. With current profit and sustainability rules (PSR) in place for next season and no Champions League football. United is open to offers for almost all of their first-team players as they seek to generate revenue and improve Erik ten Hag’s squad. United have set a £40 million price tag for 24-year-old forward Jadon Sancho. Veteran Northern Ireland international Jonny Evans was also sidelined by injury. But United have confirmed they are in talks with the 36-year-old about a new contract.
