During a pre-match press conference at EURO 2024, England manager Gareth Southgate appeared baffled by an unexpected question. A Moroccan journalist asked Southgate what advice he could offer to Morocco’s coach Walid Regragui. Notably, Regragui has famously guided Morocco to a fourth-place finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Unfortunately, this question puzzled Southgate, whose side had been eliminated from the tournament in the quarter-finals against the eventual runners-up. Despite the surprise, the England coach provided a humble response.
Southgate replied: “You got to the semi-final, didn’t you? We didn’t. So, how can I give advice to your coach?”
England to face Slovenia in final group stage clash
England will square off against Slovenia in their final Group C clash at the Cologne Stadium on June 26. A win will help them secure the top spot and a place in the knockout stage. However, the Three Lions have faced severe criticism following their flat performance against Denmark in the 1-1 draw.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, England’s seasoned players have taken steps to maintain calm to stay alive in the tournament. Notably, in a post-match interview, Gareth Southgate bizarrely remarked that his side is missing the presence of Kalvin Phillips. Additionally, Southgate also ‘experimented’ with Trent Alexander-Arnold in a central midfield position alongside Declan Rice in their first two games. Unfortunately, this tactical move didn’t work well and received heavy criticism.
