Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signed a new three-year contract that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2027, the north London club announced on Thursday.
The 42-year-old Spanish manager was set to be out of contract at the end of this year. As a result, both parties moved swiftly to avoid any confusion regarding the future, and a new contract was drawn up and signed in quick succession.
Mikel Arteta, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2019 as a replacement for the outgoing Unai Emery, was delighted after pledging his long-term future to North London. Speaking to the club’s media channel, Arteta said:
“I feel extremely proud, very excited and am looking forward to what is coming next. I feel extremely lucky to work every single day with good people and the ambition we have here. I feel very inspired, I feel challenged, I feel supported and I want to do much more than what we’ve already done together.”
The new development was also hailed by the club’s sporting director Edu, who said that Arteta gave the Gunners “stability and clear direction”.

After signing the new contract, Arteta is set to earn around 15 million pounds per year (as per GiveMeSport), which will make him one of the highest-paid managers in the world, behind Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who reportedly earns 20 million pounds per year.
The massive payday shows the confidence that Arsenal has put in their former-player-turned-manager, whose only major trophy win so far has been an FA Cup title won in the 2019-20 season.
However, the Arsenal fans will hope that the boost from the new long-term contract will help motivate the Arsenal squad ahead of a crucial North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
