Ballon d’Or 2024: Lamine Yamal triumphs best young player, and Rodri is the frontrunner to win the big one.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony takes place tonight in Paris, where the world’s best footballers will gather at the Theatre du Chatelet for an evening of awards and celebration.

Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham, as well as Manchester City’s Rodri, are widely regarded as frontrunners for the men’s award in a year in which neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo has been nominated.

Lamine Yamal wins the Kopa Trophy

The Spain and Barcelona wonderkid has won the Best Young Player award. He is the third Barcelona player to take home the award in the last four years, following Pedro in 2021 and Gavi in 2022. In his speech, he devotes the award to his mother, grandmother, and coaches.

‘Good evening, it’s an honor to receive this trophy. Thank you, France Football. I dedicate this award to my mother, grandmother, the team, and the coaches. It’s for my supporters. Visit Barcelona and the capital 304!” Yamal comes in first, followed by Arda Guler of Real Madrid and Kobbie Mainoo of Manchester United, Savinho of Barcelona, and Pau Cubarsi.

Madrid wins Men’s Club of the Year

When Real Madrid learned that Vinicius Jr. would not be receiving the award, they cancelled a private plane scheduled to fly to Paris.

Previously today, reports from Spain showed up that Madrid had decided to boycott the ceremony after learning that Vinicius Jr. would not be receiving the men’s best player award. The club has not acknowledged anything about their ceremony on social media.
