Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has been forced to withdraw from Argentina’s squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers due to a knee injury. The 20-year-old sensation, who has been an integral part of United’s lineup this season, will now focus on recovery during the international break.

Garnacho has been dealing with discomfort in his left knee, an issue that arose during Manchester United’s recent matches. According to reports by Sportsmole, the club made the decision to keep him from travelling to Miami, where Argentina will face Venezuela and Bolivia in crucial World Cup Qualifiers. This decision ensures the player will use the break to rest and recover instead of risking further injury.

The young winger confirmed his absence on social media, explaining, “I had knee problems in the last two matches, and I won’t be able to be with the national team. I hope to recover soon so I can be on the next date.” Despite playing a full 90 minutes in United’s recent 0-0 draw against Aston Villa, Garnacho has been struggling to maintain full fitness.

Alejandro Garnacho’s role at Manchester United

The 2024-25 season has been challenging for both Garnacho and Manchester United. While Garnacho has scored four goals and provided three assists across 11 matches this season, his last few performances have been less impactful, with no goals or assists in his previous five outings. As an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s squad, his absence could pose a challenge for United in their upcoming fixtures.

However, the club is prioritizing Garnacho’s long-term health, hoping the international break will give him the time needed to return to full fitness ahead of their next Premier League game against Brentford.
