Cristiano Ronaldo confirms he is playing his 'last European Championship'

Portuguese ace Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that Euro 2024 in Germany will mark his final participation in the European Championship. The 39-year-old has made history, making a record sixth appearance in the tournament.

Ronaldo-led Portugal has enjoyed a remarkable group-stage campaign, finishing as Group F winners. They then defeated Slovenia 3-0 in penalties in the Round of 16 and reached the quarterfinals of the tournament. The 2016 EURO champions will next face off against France in Hamburg.

“Without a doubt it’s the last Euro [for me], of course it is.But I’m not emotional about that. I’m moved by everything that football entails, by the enthusiasm I have for the game, the enthusiasm I see in the fans, having my family here, people’s passion… it’s not about leaving the world of football. What else is there for me to do or win?,” Ronaldo told Portugal TV’s RTP.

Cristiano Ronaldo also expressed his enthusiasm and drive for playing for the national side. He made his international debut in 2003 and is the top-scorer in the history of men’s international football with 130 goals. Additionally, the Al Nassr striker is the leading goal scorer in European Championship history, netting 14 goals thus far.

“The most important thing about the journey I’ve been on is the enthusiasm I still have for being here. It’s 20 years representing and playing with the national team, bringing joy to people, to the family, my children, that is what motivates me most,” Ronaldo said further.
