FC Barcelona‘s promising start to the season under Hansi Flick has hit an unexpected setback, as their key midfielder Dani Olmo is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Olmo, who has been instrumental in Barcelona’s unbeaten run in La Liga, suffered the injury during their commanding 4-1 win over Girona.
The club has confirmed that the injury will keep Olmo out for four to five weeks. He was substituted around the 60th minute of the Girona match after feeling discomfort. Medical tests conducted on Monday morning revealed a strain in his right hamstring, leaving Barcelona without one of their key playmakers for several important upcoming fixtures.
According to Barcelona’s official statement, “He is expected to be unavailable for the next four to five weeks”.

What does this mean for FC Barcelona?
Olmo’s absence means he will miss Barcelona’s Champions League opener against Monaco, along with another crucial group stage match against Young Boys. His absence also extends to several La Liga games, where Barcelona will be looking to maintain their unbeaten streak. Furthermore, Olmo’s injury sidelines him from Spain’s upcoming Nations League matches against Denmark and Serbia in October.
Olmo has been in great form, netting three goals in as many matches for Barcelona since his summer arrival from RB Leipzig. His performances had quickly established him as a key figure in Flick’s plans.
However, the injury means that the 26-year-old is now targeting a return for the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich on October 23, and the highly-anticipated El Clasico against Real Madrid on October 27.
In some positive news for Barcelona, midfielder Fermin Lopez, who impressed during the Paris Olympics, is nearing a full recovery and could feature in their next La Liga fixture against Villarreal.
