The 31-year-old is part of Paulo Fonseca’s squad on a four-year contract worth an estimated €13 million (£11 million) after the Rossoneri exercised a release provision in his contract with the La Liga giants.

Morata has signed a four-year contract with Milan until the summer of 2028, with the option to extend it by an extra year. Former Chelsea striker will wear his number seven shirt at San Siro, which has previously been worn by Andriy Shevchenko, Alexandre Pato, Edgar Davids, Paolo Di Canio, and Frank Rijkaard. Morata is Milan’s second signing during the Fonseca era, following compatriot Alex Gimenez’s move from Real Madrid, and he joins the Italian giants after leading Spain to Euro 2024 glory. Morata appeared in all seven matches for Luis de la Fuente’s team on their way to victory in Germany.

But he only scored one goal and assisted one, and was outperformed by Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal, and Nico Williams. The striker joins San Siro after a five-and-a-half-year loan term with Atletico Madrid, where he was initially signed on loan from Chelsea in the middle of the 2018-19 season before becoming a permanent member of the club in summer 2020.

Morata scored 58 goals and 14 assists in 154 appearances for Diego Simeone’s team, including 21 goals in all competitions in the 2023-24 season, however, he did not play in their 2020-21 La Liga title win. That season was the first of two on-loan seasons for Morata, who had previously represented Juventus for two years between 2014 and 2016, either side of his Real Madrid spells. Morata left his mark at Juventus over the COVID-19 era, earning one Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana, and he is now returning to Serie A for a third time.
