‘I think we’re struggling both with and without the ball’ – Harry Kane reacts after their draw versus Denmark

Outspoken pundits have a responsibility of being an ex-England player that a lot of players look up to: Harry Kane

England captain Harry Kane has opened up about his side’s difficulties in the ongoing EURO 2024 following their 1-1 draw against Denmark on June 20. The 30-year-old pointed out issues both in and out of possession,  while also noting that every member lacked the mandated effort.

The forward netted his first goal of EURO 2024 in the 18th minute of the game held at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt. However, his side floundered in front of the opponent’s attacking prowess thereafter, conceding more shots and possession. Denmark’s efforts didn’t go in vain as Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand netted a stunner in the 34th minute. Notably, they maintained their momentum until the final whistle.

“I think we’re struggling both with and without the ball. I think the pressure in both games hasn’t been right, and with the ball, it hasn’t been good enough. Everyone’s dropping below their levels a little bit. It was tough out there, but we’re calm. It wasn’t our greatest game, but we got away with a point,” Kane said while speaking to BBC after the game.

Overall, we’ve got to look back and see where we can improve: Harry Kane

England head coach Gareth Southgate faced criticism for adopting a defensive approach after scoring early goals in their first two games. Meanwhile, Kane emphasized the need for his team to maintain pressure after their initial attacks. The Bayern Munich striker also acknowledged their efforts to improve in the second half but credited Denmark for their formidable performance throughout the game.

“I think it’s something we’ve got to get better at. I think we’re starting games well, but when the teams are dropping deeper, we’re not quite sure how to get the pressure on and who’s going. In the second half, we tried to change a little bit, but it was difficult. Credit to Denmark, they caused us some threats. Overall, we’ve got to look back and see where we can improve,” he added.
