Pep Guardiola is currently experiencing the worst run of his professional career, with City having lost four consecutive Premier League games and six of their last seven fixtures in all competitions
Although the slump can be attributed to injuries throughout the pitch, Rodri’s serious knee injury in September proved decisive. While City have a variety of options in the engine room, it is highly likely that Guardiola will try to sign at least one new player for his midfield at the halfway point of the season. A variety of options have been suggested, including Torino’s Samuele Ricci, who could be genuinely targeted by the Spaniard.

What is Manchester City’s stance on Luiz?
Another player who may be willing to transfer in January is Luiz, who was previously contracted to Manchester City but has struggled to make a mark in Italy. The Brazil international has made few appearances for the Italian giants since joining from Aston Villa in a deal worth an estimated £42.5 million last summer.
Nonetheless, according to Football Insider, City are not currently interested in attempting to bring Luiz back to either the Premier League or the Etihad Stadium. Despite being with City from 2017 to 2019, Luiz failed to make a single senior appearance, instead completing consecutive loan spells at Girona. Luiz, now 26 years old, was sold to Villa, where he became a club legend, but Juventus has yet to see the very best of the player since he arrived in June.
