Modric signs a one-year extension with Spanish giants Real Madrid

Real Madrid captain Luka Modric has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Spanish champions.

Modric, 38, has won 26 trophies, including six Champions Leagues and four domestic titles, since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012. The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has played in 534 matches for Los Blancos and scored 39 goals.

In 2023-24, the Croat appeared in 46 games across all competitions, but only started 23. Modric started all three of Croatia’s Euro 2024 matches, as the team finished third in their group and was eliminated. The midfielder was out of contract at the end of June, but his continued presence will give manager Carlo Ancelotti experience to rely on as he prepares for his 13th season at the Bernabeu.
