Former England player Rio Ferdinand names three players he believes could revitalize the Harry Kane-led side and lead them to clinch the Euro 2024. Notably, England have faced harsh criticism after three uninspiring performances in the group stage despite qualifying for the Round of 16.
Ferdinand, currently working as a BBC pundit during the European Championship, suggested Gareth Southgate include Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, and Anthony Gordon in their next encounter. Notably, they all featured during England’s 0-0 draw against Slovenia on Tuesday night, coming off the bench. Ferdinand didn’t specify their positions. However, it appears that Mainoo would partner Declan Rice in midfield, while Gordon could fill Phil Foden’s position.

Gareth Southgate has been mounting pressure to make changes after England’s lackluster performance in the group stage. Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, and Anthony Gordon impressed in the clash against Slovenia, adding to Southgate’s selection puzzles.
The 19-year-old Mainoo starred after replacing Conor Gallagher at halftime. Palmer, 22, also carried forward his impressive form from Chelsea’s season and Gordon provided the direct running threat which the Three Lions had been lacking in their first two games.
The challenge for Southgate lies in placing Palmer, potentially leading him to drop either Bukayo Saka or Jude Bellingham. England’s selection proved ineffective as they limped to a 1-1 draw against Denmark after narrowly defeating Serbia 1-0 in their opener. Evidently, the talent on the England bench has further heightened the pressure on Southgate to make appropriate changes.
