Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic involved in altercation with fan at bar days before Euro 2024 crucial match

Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, Serbia goalkeeper, was reportedly involved in an altercation with a fan days before their crucial EURO 2024 match. Vanja, the younger brother to former Lazio player Sergej, was a back-up goalkeeper for the competition and did not play.

As per the Serbian newspaper Telegraf, Milinkovic-Savic visited a bar in Munich ahead of the group-stage match against Denmark. One fan recognized him and asked him why he wasn’t with his teammates to prepare for their last match. Tensions mounted as the footballer verbally confronted the fan and then engaged in a physical altercation, throwing a punch. By that time the bar security intervened, and the owner eventually separated them.

Milinkovic-Savic, who plays for Torino, has been overlooked ahead of Mallorca’s Predrag Rajkovic in the Euro 2024. Serbia did not enjoy a memorable campaign as they exited the tournament after two draws and a loss to England, finishing at the bottom of Group C.

Bar Owner clarifies incident with Serbia goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic

During an interview with Telegraf, the bar owner provided a toned-down version of events. He said that the security barred the footballer from entering the bar as he was wearing the national team shorts. He added that a dispute occurred, but he intervened. He also mentioned that the incident unfolded in the bar’s garden.

“Vanja came to our bar, but the security at the entrance didn’t recognise him and they didn’t want to let him in because he was wearing the national team shorts, which made him angry and there was a fight. I soon intervened, I grabbed his hand and told him to come in with me, but he refused. Everything happened in the bar’s garden. I didn’t hear what they said at him and what they said to each other. I’m glad that in the end we resolved everything,” said the bar owner.
